Three BMW Cars Stolen from Dobbs Ferry Driveway

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Police said three BMWs were stolen from a home on Washington Avenue sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police said the keys were left inside the cars, which were unlocked at the time of the theft.  The 51-year-old victim moved his cars to one end of his driveway to make room and when he came back outside around 1 p.m. he realized the cars were gone.  The vehicles included a 2011 BMW 355 hardtop convertible, a 2007 BMW M5 and a 2012 BMW X5. The total value is $220,000, according to police.

“During the past month there have been several expensive vehicles reported stolen from driveways of homes in Dobbs Ferry.  In every instance either the ignition key or the key fob had been left within the vehicle when it was parked," police said in a statement. "The suspect(s) involved in these crimes are believed to possess a device that enables them to detect either the ignition key or key fob from within the parked vehicle, thus allowing them to easily and discreetly steal the vehicle. Residents are urged to always lock their vehicles and remove the ignition key or the key fob from the vehicle.”

Police are still investigating the recent thefts and urge anyone who sees or hears any suspicious activity to contact the department immediately.
