Beginning Monday, Jan. 13, a section of Cedar Street in Dobbs Ferry has been converted to one-way traffic as the United Water Company repairs a water main break at the intersection of Cedar Street and Broadway.
Route 9 through Dobbs Ferry is a well-traveled arterial that is used from Yonkers and Hastings-on-Hudson, through Irvington, Ardsley and Tarrytown as an alternative route. Motorists who regularly use Broadway should expect some delays through Dobbs Ferry.
"I think I will take the Saw Mill from Dobbs Ferry to Yonkers while the work is being done," said Rob Forgone, a motorist who lives in Elmsford. "I usually come down from Elmsford through Dobbs Ferry and go home this way at night from Yonkers where I work. There's always traffic here at rush hour anyway."
A Dobbs Ferry police officer on traffic control duty said motorists who wish to enter Cedar Street from the north on Route 9 will be diverted south to Oak Street where they can turn right and proceed to the downtown area.
Motorist may also access the Cedar Street
Work is expected to continue from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Friday Jan. 17 or until work is completed.
The Bee Line Bus will not run on Livingston Avenue, Main Street and Cedar Street for the duration of this project. The School bus stop on Cedar Street has been moved to Main Street at Cedar Street.
The water main work should not effect parking on Cedar Street, a busy commercial strip that has several restaurants ans retail shops. Shoppers entering the Stop & Shop on Broadway and Cedar Street may also use the entrance on Esterwood Ave., a block north of Cedar Street.
