According to the New York State Division of Criminal Services, Westchester, Putnam and Orange Counties were among those that saw an increase in crime in New York from 2015 to 2016 to create a “crime index” that includes both violent and property crimes.
Putnam County saw an increase of 16 crimes per 100,000 residents, though there was a slight downturn in population. In Westchester, officials saw an increase of 28 crimes per 100,000 residents, though the population increased and nearly 300 additional crimes were committed. Orange County expanded its population by more than 2,000 and saw an increase of 10 crimes per 100,000 residents.
