HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. Friday Night Live returns to Hastings with the Yellow Jacket Jam on Friday night, sponsored by the Hastings High School Alumni Association. Alumni from years past will return to where they got their musical start to perform in honor of former music department supervisor Peter DeLuke.
DeLuke was supervisor of music in Hastings public schools from 1960-1985 and currently leads a nine-piece Duke Ellington Repertory Jazz Orchestra in Southern California called "Mellotones." He is also currently an adjunct professor at Point Loma Nazarene University.
There are several tributes to DeLuke from various alumni in the Yellow Jacket Jam program to be handed out Friday night.
"The opportunity to share the stage with amazing professionals while playing in the Hastings High School Jazz band gave me the confidence to talk my way into my university jazz band, step outside of my comfort zone and excel," said Judy Mucciolo, a member of the program and an alumnus of the class of 1974.
The Hastings High School Alumni Association was founded in 2000 to promote local events that build alumni friendship and to raise money for scholarships awarded each year.
The proceeds from Friday night's show will be donated to the alumni association's scholarship program and towards a new Peter DeLuke Music Scholarship that will be given to a graduating senior.
