Arthur Frederick Blackmar, 93, Of Dobbs Ferry

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Arthur Frederick Blackmar, 93, of Dobbs Ferry, died Thursday, June 25.

Born in Dobbs Ferry, he was the son of the late Arthur C. and Mathilda C. Blackmar. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked as a purchasing agent for the Otis Elevator Company in Yonkers and also worked at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, for many years. He had a passion for gardening and the New York Mets, and was a longtime member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Hastings.

He is survived by his second wife, Wilma (Billie); daughter Joanne Kratz (Gary); son Randy (Bernadette); six grandchildren; two brothers; and one sister.

He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Adele, in 1996; a sister; and a grandson.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 1 at 11 a.m. at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home, 64 Ashford Ave., Dobbs Ferry. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will follow the service at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson. There will be a second memorial service at Cabrini of Westchester at 4 p.m. July 1.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Senior Center of Irvington, the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.
