Salimbene was killed in a fire at the Boulevard residence, where he also had his medical offices.

His wife of 60 years, Marie, was seriously injured during the blaze but is recuperating in the hospital.

The couple worked together professionally to serve the community for more than 55 years.

The son of Italian immigrants Vincent and Frances Salimbene, he lived in the Throgs Neck area of the Bronx and attended Fordham Prep and Fordham University.

He attended the University of Rome Medical School and later began a residency at Flushing Hospital in Queens before moving to Scarsdale where he built a family practice.

Salimbene spent decades as the Tuckahoe Police Department’s doctor.

He also worked at St. Agnes Hospital in White Plains and at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville. He treated the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal and the Sisters Of Life.

A deeply religious man, Salimbene loved the Christmas holidays and always decorated his home with bright lights and a crèche, his family said.

Salimbene’s family said he was beloved by his patients, many of whom considered him a confidant and a personal friend.

He is also survived by seven children: John Jr, Rita, Deborah, Jennifer, Bernadette, Frances, and Michael; 12 grandchildren: Ann, Emily, John III, David, Adriana, Daniel, Ashley, Melissa, Jessica, Michael, Luke, Hannah; and three great-grandchildren: Johnathan, Chance and Eddie.
