George Haag, 78, Longtime Hastings Resident

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – George Leo Haag, a longtime resident of Hastings-on-Hudson, died Thursday, July 26, at St. John's Riverside Hospital in Yonkers. He was 78.

He was born in St. Louis to Almira and William Haag. He graduated from St. Louis University and from Fordham University with a master's degree in history. Haag worked in higher education administration.

Haag was an active member of St. Matthew's Parish, where he served as a lector for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Margaret Haag; two sons, John (Laurie) Haag and Michael (Hillary Grace) Haag; a sister, Ruth Haag; a sister-in law, Catherine Hickey; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Church of St. Matthew in Hastings-on-Hudson. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
