Karl I. Beitin, 79, Of Dobbs Ferry

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Karl I. Beitin, of Dobbs Ferry, died suddenly on Monday, July 20. He was 79.

Beitin earned his doctorate in engineering from the University of Michigan, and had a long career in design and consulting engineering.

He was a professor at Pratt Institute for 10 years, and founded his own engineering firm, Beitin Associates in New York City.

Beitin was predeceased by his wife Joan/

He is survived by his children, Leila Hooper and her husband, Herb, Ben and his wife, Renee, Clara and Anna Beitin, six grandchildren, Samuel, Noah, Alina and Jason Hooper and Ariana and Niya Beitin.

Visiting hours are on Sunday at 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home, 64 Ashford Ave. in Dobbs Ferry.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Church of the Sacred Heart in Dobbs Ferry.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Michigan Engineering Scholarship Fund at the University of Michigan.
