YONKERS, N.Y. – Marc Rieter Rice of Yonkers died at the Bronx VA hospice? on Monday, Aug. 4?. He was 86 years old.
Rice was a native of Midwood, Brooklyn, but had lived in Dobbs Ferry and Yonkers for the past 22 years.
He was the son of Gil and Ada Rice. His younger brother, Paul, predeceased him.
Rice attended Syracuse University and was an accomplished athlete on the fencing, acrobatic, diving and equestrian teams. After two years at Syracuse, he joined the Marines and was stationed first at Camp Lejeune and then in San Diego.
After serving in the Marines, Rice moved back to Brooklyn, where he received both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in fine arts from Pratt Institute. He worked as a successful graphic designer and was partner in a firm that specialized in modern commercial design for product packaging.
He studied psychology at Yeshiva University, where he received a doctorate in clinical psychology. He was in private practice in Manhattan as a psychologist for 25 years, then moved to Westchester, where he became a staff psychologist at Graham Windham.
Rice is survived by his sons Jesse of Manhattan and Zack of Brooklyn; his daughter?,s? Nicole of Portland, Ore., and Stephanie of Yonkers; and his beloved grandson, Austen.
