Nicholas Raimondo, 95, Dobbs Ferry WWII Veteran

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Nicholas Raimondo of Dobbs Ferry and formerly of Yonkers died Jan. 29 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, N.Y. He was 95.

Raimondo was born Jan. 16, 1918, in New York City to Antonio and Caterina Raimondo. His family moved to Dobbs Ferry when he was young and he later settled in Yonkers. In 1944, he married Helen Mironovich.

He served in the Army during World War II.

In 1946, he built and operated the Gulf Morsemere Service Station in Yonkers until the mid 1980s. He then worked as a representative with the Gas Station Owners Association of Greater New York.

Raimondo also bred and owned race horses. He loved animals, as well as the New York Mets and New York Jets.

His wife died in 1980.

He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn (Loreto) DeRubeis; a brother, Joseph Raimondo; and two grandsons.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m., Friday, at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Dobbs Ferry.
