Paul Okeke, White Plains Native, Star Wrestler, Dies At 22

Paul Obi Okeke, a former star wrestler for Clarkstown South High School in West Nyack and a Westchester native, died on May 10 in Dubuque, Iowa, where he was a college student. He was 22.

Okeke was born on February 16, 1995, in White Plains to Angelus and Lisa (Steffen) Okeke. A student at Loras College in Dubuque, he had dreams of becoming a teacher and was working at Young-Uns Day Care, where he was admired by everyone.

Known for his smile,  his family said Okeke treated everyone with an innate warmth and charm that can only be described as special.

Okeke was a four-year varsity wrestler at Clarkstown South and was a two-time division champion, county champion and all-conference selection

He is survived by his parents Angelus and Lisa Okeke; siblings Laurence, Edward and Mary; grandparents Loras and Mary Ann Steffen, and Mary Okeke; aunts Laura, Beatrice, Antonia, Veronica, Ann, Nkechi, and Uche; and uncle Fred; along with numerous cousins in Nigeria.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Edward Okeke.

A gathering for family and friends was held at Loras College. Services have taken place.
