Born July 14, 1939, Grady was raised in Hastings-on-Hudson. He was the son of the late James Joseph Grady and Dorothy Byrd Grady. He had a love of boats, water and fishing. He played football at Hastings High School and enjoyed boxing. He was a graceful dancer and enjoyed entering dance contests in his youth. He enjoyed working on his first Harley Davidson and old 1950s cars his entire life.

They moved to Purdy and subsequently Brewster, New York, where they raised three children, many dogs and a pony, which he brought home in the back of a convertible.

Grady joined the White Plains Police Department and fought crime from 1965-1985, rising to the rank of detective first grade. After selling his New York business South East Maintenance, he and Vicki moved to Aquia Harbor, Virginia, where they started their next adventure and opened Achara Card and Gift, and a florist shop.

While living in Fernandina, Grady enjoyed the beach, car shows and took up golf at age 65. He loved buying and selling old cars and was a member of the Amelia Cruisers Car Club and St. Peter's Church.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki; his children James, David and Melissa and their spouses Stephanie, Dorothy and Rob; six siblings; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in Fernandina, Florida, Saturday, June 20 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with Rev. Rector Stephen Mazingo officiating. St. Peters Episcopal Parish is located at 801 Atlantic Ave., Fernandina Beach.
