DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. Two Dobbs Ferry men were arrested Sept. 5 after police determined they were involved in check fraud, as well as a larceny at a local gas station. Aaren Burgos and Michael Matsoukas, both 20, were charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument, a second-degree class D felony, third-degree burglary, and petit larceny, said Sgt. Marty Coster. The men were accused of stealing six checks from the gas station and Burgos asked an acquaintance to cash two checks for him because he did not have a bank account, police said. The acquaintance, a 26-year-old Dobbs Ferry man, deposited the checks and gave Burgos $33. The bank later notified the acquaintance that one of the checks, made out for $5,000, had not processed properly and it was then determined the checks were stolen and forged, police said.

Not-So-Social Media: Steven Cassanelli, a 50-year-old man with no known address, was arrested Sept. 8 after a 42-year-old Dobbs Ferry man reported Cassanelli was harassing him through a popular social media site. The man told police Cassanelli made statements about people on his friends list on the site indicating he planned to injure or kill certain individuals, police said. Greenburgh Police found Cassanelli at the Marriot Hotel in Greenburgh and turned him over to Dobbs Ferry police. He was arrested and charge with aggravated harassment in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor.
Lost In Transit: Police are investigating a case of larceny after a 36-year-old Dobbs Ferry man reported his wallet went missing Sept. 7 during a commute to Dobbs Ferry. The man told police he was not sure if he lost it while traveling in a car, airplane or MetroNorth Railroad train. The wallet contained two credit cards and one debit card, and the bank notified the man that someone attempted to use his cards at a Wal-Mart in Spring Valley, N.Y.
Broken Glass: A 26-year-old Dobbs Ferry resident reported someone shattered the back window of her 2004 Jeep sometime between 9 p.m., Sept. 8, and 1 p.m., Sept. 9, while the vehicle was parked on Deerfoot Lane. After investigating, police determined a beer bottle likely shattered the window. The damage is valued at $500.
