Dobbs Ferry Police: Man Hit With Chair by Student

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- Dobbs Ferry police handled several cases at Children's Village this week, including an incident where an employee was struck with a chair thrown by a student.

Assault at Children’s Village Police said a 52-year-old Children’s Village employee was the victim of an assault after he was struck with a chair while working in Crolius Cottage.  Police said the man was vacuuming a rug on June 5 between noon and 1 p.m. at the bottom of a staircase. While he was vacuuming, police said a chair was thrown from the top of the stairs, striking him in the right wrist and arm, causing redness and pain. Police said there is a 17-year-old male suspect and they are investigating the incident. The same 17-year-old Children’s Village student later reported that his $1,500 gold chain went missing from his bedroom on June 5.  Police said he became angry while searching for the chain and began to throw items, including the chair down the staircase. Police said the chain went missing between 9:30 a.m. and noon, but he did not report it until June 8 at Police Headquarters.

Children’s Village Assault Police said a 16-year-old male student at Children’s Village was the victim of an assault on June 4 between 11 p.m.-12 a.m. Police said the victim’s roommate, an 18-year-old male, came into his room and struck him causing bruising to the right eye and a bloody nose. The victim was treated by school staff and then went to the hospital the next day for a follow up. Police are still investigating the incident.

Harassment at Children’s Village On June 6 just before 1 p.m. the Children’s Village 36-year-old high school principal was punched in the chest by a 17-year-old male student, police said. The incident caused the man to fall back into a door. Police later found the student on the campus and arrested him and charged him with harassment in the second degree, a violation. Police said the victim was attempting to get the student to leave a classroom he should not have been in.
