Karen Waller, 50, is charged in a criminal complaint on file in U.S. District Court in Newark with one count of mailing threatening communications. She is expected to appear before a federal magistrate judge in Newark this afternoon.
According to the complaint, Waller mailed more than 50 threatening letters the past two months.
“The recipients of those letters included the U.S. Supreme Court; the town hall in Woodbridge Township, N.J.; Rutgers University; an insurance company; and the Millburn Township, N.J., Police Department,” U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said this morning. “The letters threatened to injure and kill unspecified individuals.”
Fishman credited the arrest to special agents, detectives and investigators assigned to the JTTF, which is comprised of law enforcement officers from several federal, state and local agencies throughout New Jersey. Handling the case is Andrew Kogan, chief of the U.S. Attorney’s Office National Security Unit.
