On July 8 at approximately 2:23 a.m., numerous Yonkers police units were alerted to gun shots on Waverly Street Arriving units located a 22 year old male, later identified as Yonkers resident Kenedy Gonzalez, with gunshot wounds to his torso. He was taken to Jacobi Hospital and pronounced dead, police said.
After a lengthy investigation and tips received from the public, officials identified Erycmelec Hairston, 25, as a primary suspect. Officials found Hairston near West 146th Street in New York City and arrested him, police said.
“This arrest is a direct result of the hard work and tenacity of our Detectives," Police Commissioner Charles Gardner said in a statement. "I am pleased to report that valuable information was received from the community which aided us in the apprehension of this violent individual. I would also like to thank the NYPD 30th Precinct for their assistance in this investigation.”
Hairston was charged with second-degree murder and remanded to Westchester County Jail.
