Police: Hudson Valley Man Committed Violent, Criminal Sex Acts On Child

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. --  A Tomkins Cove man was arrested Tuesday for performing violent, sexual acts on a child under the age of 7 the past month, according to the Stony Point Police.

Marc Melter, 25, was apprehended following an investigation of a report of a possible sexual assault that took place in a Tomkins Cove apartment. During the investigation, detectives were able to determine that Melter, a former New City resident, had attacked the child several times, said Lt. Daniel Hylas.

The Rockland County Child Protective Services was notified and assisted in the investigation, Hylas said.

Melter was charged with three counts of predatory sexual assault against a child under the age of 13; three counts of criminal sexual acts against a child under the age of 11; three counts of aggravated sexual abuse, and one count of assault with serious injury to a victim under the age of 7, police said.

He was arraigned in Stony Point Justice Court by Judge Frank Phillips and is being held without bail at the Rockland County Jail.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, April 21.

The top charge against Melter carries a maximum sentence of life in prison with a minimum sentence of 3 to 8 years.
