Officers Vincent Zappulla, Ed Berdeccia and Mark Kopcynski found the 32-year-old Manhattan man sitting on the railing midspan of the south walkway, staring at the Hudson River below, at 12:15 p.m., the authority's Joseph Pentangelo said.

They quickly converged on the man, who "struggled with police and was wrestled back to the walkway side of the bridge," Pentangelo said.

He was taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center in Paramus for evaluation.
