Tarrytown Teen Charged With Murder In Sleepy Hollow Stabbing

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – A 17-year-old Tarrytown resident was charged with second-degree murder and faces life in prison for his role in an October stabbing in a Sleepy Hollow park.

Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced on Tuesday that Berinzon Moronta was arraigned and charged with felony counts of murder and tampering with physical evidence, and a misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a weapon for the stabbing death of Tahj Robinson earlier this year.

Shortly after 11 p.m. on Oct. 9, police were dispatched to Barnhart Park, after receiving a report that someone had been stabbed. Upon arrival, first responders found Robinson unresponsive on the ground, bleeding from multiple stab wounds. He was transported and pronounced dead at the Westchester Medical Center within the hour.

According to DiFiore, an investigation revealed that Moronta and several others entered the park with the express purpose of locating and injuring Robinson. Moronta went straight for Robinson in the park, repeatedly stabbing him in the torso, including wounds to the heart and lungs.

Moronta is due back in court on Tuesday, Jan 5. He faces a maximum sentence of 25-years to life in prison.
