HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – A Hastings woman called police Oct. 9 to report that her daughter may have been the victim of an attempted rape Sept. 28 on the Old Croton Aqueduct in Hastings near Zinsser Park.
The woman said her 14-year-old daughter was walking along the aqueduct around 7 p.m. when an unknown person pushed her to the ground facedown and sat on her, police said. The attacker let the girl go and ran away after a passer-by yelled.
The mother told police the girl was not supposed to be out of the house at the time of the incident.
The following items also were reported by Hastings police:
Suspicious Person: A Hastings High School employee called police about 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, to report a suspicious man on a motorcycle on Mount Hope Boulevard. Police questioned the man, who said he was holding a sign to get students to help him move a table. The man left the area upon request, police said.
Hit and Run: A woman reported that her 2007 Cadillac was hit by another car about 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, on Warburton Avenue. The woman told police her car was struck after two cars, one white and one gray, passed her at a high speed. No further information about the vehicles was available. The woman’s driver’s side mirror was damaged. It was valued at $382, police said.
Village Truck Hit: A village employee reported about 9 a.m. Oct. 9 that a village garbage truck had been struck by a vehicle. Police confirmed that the truck had been hit. It was towed from the site of the incident on Warburton Ave.
Parked Car Damaged: A Hastings man reported that his 2012 BMW was damaged while parked on Warburton Avenue between noon and 7 p.m. Oct. 9. Thedriver’s side mirror was broken, police said.
Antique Missing: A Hastings resident reported Oct. 10 that a 300-year-old wicker chair had been taken from his house on Riverpointe Road. The man said he bought the chair six years ago at a garage sale for $50. When police responded, they found the chair a short distance up the street and returned it to the man.
Nosy Critters: A woman reported unknown animals in the bushes outside her house on Warburton Avenue about 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. Police determined the animals were raccoons.
