Hastings Trustees Approve Use Of $985K In Bonds

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Hastings Board of Trustees approved three resolutions that authorized the use of $985,000 in serial bonds for town expenses Wednesday.

The board held a special meeting to approve the three resolutions because of timing considerations, said Mayor Peter Swiderski. All resolutions were unanimously approved.

The first resolution approved the use of $310,000 in serial bonds to cover the cost and installation of a new public safety communications system. The new equipment is necessary to stay in compliance with the FCC and its move to narrow the amount of available communication bandwidth, Swiderski said.

The second resolution approved the use of $475,000 in serial bonds to pay for new vehicles for construction and maintenance uses in Hastings.

“It is replacing vehicles that have well exceed their natural life and upgrading a DPW fleet that is on average 14 years old,” Swiderski said.

The final resolution authorized the use of $200,000 in serial bonds for claims associated with Article 7 of the Real Property Tax Law, which deals with tax disputes. Although the bonds were approved for use, there is a possibility some or all of the amount will not be used, Swiderski said.

“This is an authorization for the issuance but we have said on a number of occasions, and where possible, we want his coming out of general funds,” Swiderski said.

More details on the resolutions can be found on the Village website .
