Molinaro said Monday he is considering teaming up with Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb (R-Canandaigua) to challenge Governor Andrew Cuomo on the Republican ticket next year.

The two have both talked about running against Cuomo, who is running for a third term.

"We're not out to kill each other," Molinaro told the Auburn Citizen. "We're trying to find out what's the right mix of people to send the right message and win."

Molinaro and Kolb said they both expect to make a final decision within the next month. Molinaro said Cuomo is too interested in scoring "wins" rather than making the necessary changes to make New York more affordable, according to the Auburn Citizen.

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, who was defeated by Cuomo in 2014, is also considering another run for governor.
