Poll: How Should The Hastings Waterfront Be Developed?

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Village of Hastings-on-Hudson has been considering possible development of a major portion of its waterfront adjacent to the Metro-North Railroad station for more than 20 years.

The Hastings waterfront is seen as a valuable asset to the community, and the village is working to clean up environmental contamination and possibly develop the real estate.

The Hastings Waterfront Infrastructure Committee meets at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday at Village Hall to review several items concerning the waterfront.

The Hastings Board of Trustees is working with oil companies Exxon Mobil and BP/Arco in overseeing the environmental cleanup and researching possible development and infrastructure plans for the valuable real estate.

Neighboring Rivertowns villages also are developing previously underused and undeveloped properties.

The Village of Irvington rehabilitated a large parcel of waterfront property along its Metro-North station over the past several years that included a large open green space, parks, athletic fields and some commercial real estate.

The Village of Dobbs Ferry is in the planning stages of the Rivertowns Square project, which would bring residential apartments, a gourmet supermarket, retail and restaurant businesses, and a Sundance Cinemas complex to a parcel of land between the Saw Mill River Parkway and Lawrence Street on the Ardsley-Dobbs Ferry border.
