Dear friends and neighbors,

I will be participating in a debate on (Monday) April 25 at the Scarsdale Library on a serious and timely issue – Aid In Dying.

The debate, which is being hosted by The Journal News, will begin at 7 p.m. and I will be arguing the pro side. I have written legislation that would allow terminally ill, mentally competent adults to request life-ending medication from a doctor.

I have hosted town hall meetings about this issue and spoken about it through the media. This, however, will be the first time I will discuss the issue in a debate format.

Joining me in advocating for Aid in Dying will be David Leven, the executive director of End of Life Choices New York, and Stacey Gibson, a volunteer advocate for Compassion and Choices.

Ed Mechmann, the director of public policy for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, J.J. Hanson, the president of Patients’ Rights Action Fund, and Anna Fay, a board member of Westchester Disabled on the Move, will represent the opposing viewpoint.

The debate will be moderated by Gary Stern and Nancy Cutler of The Journal News.

This is a very important issue, one in which I firmly believe and with which I have personal experience.

Whether you agree or not with my position or if you haven’t made up your mind, I’d love to have you there so you can listen and learn what this legislation is truly all about.
