Dean Skelos, a Long Island Republican, allegedly awarded a contract to a Scarsdale firm that employs his son, Adam. The firm did not submit the lowest bid, and the matter led to a monthslong investigation by federal officials regarding whether Dean Skelos wrongfully used his political influence for personal gain.

The 43-page complaint claims Skelos was attempting to monetize his position in an effort to push public policy that would benefit his son. The senator and his son were charged with six counts of fraud and extortion, NY State of Politics reported.
