WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. A dinner will be held Sept. 8 in White Plains to honor the lives of Kenneth Chamberlain Sr. and others who members of the Network for Police Accountability believe died as a result of police misconduct.
The event, to be held at the Knights of Columbus on 139 N. Broadway, is called the first annual We Stand in Solidarity Dinner. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased online. There will be several speakers, as well as a special keynote speaker, yet to be announced.
Chamberlain, 68, was shot by Officer Anthony Carelli after police responded to a medical alert from Life Aid that Chamberlain accidentally triggered in the early morning of Nov. 19. During an hourlong standoff at his apartment, Chamberlain refused to open his door to allow police to verify his condition.
Chamberlain family lawyers have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the City of White Plains, its police department and housing authority, and are pursuing criminal charges against the officers involved through the U.S. attorney's office.
The families of DJ Henry and Ramarley Graham will also be in attendance.
"When it comes to police misconduct, brutality, and criminality, We Stand In Solidarity and demand accountability," said Julie Davis Carran, communications coordinator for the group and co-chairman of the Westchester Martin Luther King Jr. Institute for Nonviolence.
