WESTON, Conn. The first day of school at Hurlbutt Elementary School was a positive experience for the K-2 students.
The energy is amazing, the kids are so excited to come back, said Assistant Principal Kim Kus.
The first day is always entertaining, said Chrissy Fernandez, a second-grade teacher. Theres lots of fun learning with different science and social studies classes. The school is a good place to be, you get so much joy every day.
Kus said the students will be participating in the new Positive Behavioral Support program by collecting "honey bees" that will be affixed to a bulletin board. Be Safe. Be Kind. Be Responsible. is the programs motto, which teaches kids to excel and be responsible, Kus said.
There are 461 students enrolled in Hurlbutt this year, a slight drop from last years enrollment.
