"There were no issues, and we didn't expect there to be," a law enforcement source told Daily Voice.
As a precaution, township police requested mobilization of the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association Rapid Deployment Force -- a team of elite officers trained to handle large crowds -- on "low ready" alert. Meanwhile, township officers occasionally circled the perimeter in patrol vehicles.
A Glenpointe clerk told Daily Voice that he was prohibited from identifying the group that rented the ballroom Thursday evening.
However, the law enforcement source said hotel personnel alerted police to the presence of the Israelite Church, which reportedly is on the FBI's terror watch list.
Formerly known as the Israeli Church of Universal Practical Knowledge, the ICGJC is an organization of black Hebrew Israelites who reportedly believe that African Americans are the real descendants of the Hebrews of the Bible and God's chosen people -- and not the people known to the world today as Jews.
The New York City-based group reportedly claims that "Black Israelites" -- which it says includes black Amerians, West Indians and native Americans (North and South) -- have "divine favor and inspiration" and are a race superior to whites.
The Southern Poverty Law Center has said the group is "obsessed with hatred for whites and Jews," which it calls "devilish impostors."
