While many health insurance providers are covering testing and states have established programs to offset out-of-pocket costs for many people, Connecticut is guaranteeing free testing regardless of the ability to pay or immigration status if you show symptoms.

Connecticut’s health insurance program, HUSKY Health, is covering the costs of testing for anyone not covered through normal health insurance.

While free testing is available to all Connecticut residents, it isn’t available at every testing location. To find a care center with free COVID-19 testing, call the state’s helpline at 211 or go to the Connecticut Testing Locator online. The locator does not provide information on whether a center offers free testing. People are advised to contact a testing facility, ask about payment, and make an appointment with a center.

Connecticut is one of 9 U.S. states that are testing an adequate number of residents to accurately track and control the virus’ spread, according to data from the New York Times. Other states that are providing residents with adequate testing include Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island, and New York. New Jersey is pretty close to conducting the right number of tests, the NYT says.
