Body Of Missing Howard County Swimmer Washed Ashore Near Delaware Beach: Police

The body of a swimmer from Maryland who got washed away in the waters of a Delaware beach over Labor Day Weekend was located early on Monday morning, authorities announced.

The Rehoboth Beach Police Department issued an alert at around 2 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 4 as they searched for Savage resident Richard Boateng, who was last seen in the ocean surf off the beach near Rehoboth Avenue at around 5:45 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

Later on Monday morning, police say that the 31-year-old was found dead on the beach in the North Shore community near Ocean Drive and Fairview Road.

Shortly before 6 a.m. on Monday, members of the Rehoboth Beach Police, Delaware State Parks Enforcement Division, and the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Department responded to a sighting of a human body in the surf.

First responders were able to positively identify Boateng’s body, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The body was removed and a death investigation has been launched by the Rehoboth Beach Police and Division of Forensic Science.

No foul play is suspected.
