Ardsley HS's Team Wins First Place In Regional Science Olympiad

ARDSLEY, N.Y. -- The Ardsley High School Science Olympiad team won first place in the Lower Hudson Valley Regional Competition, hosted at Byram Hills High School.

Thirty-nine teams from 24 Westchester and Rockland schools competed in 23 science and engineering events ranging from Cell Biology and Entomology to Astronomy and Compound Machines.

Ardsley won 10 gold, five silver and 10 bronze medals to place first overall.  In mid-March, fifteen students will represent Ardsley at the New York State competition in Syracuse. 

Ardsley was represented by two teams at the competition. 

The Ardsley A team earned gold medals in Bridge Building, Bungee Drop, Fossils, Geologic Mapping and the Mission Possible (Rube Goldberg) event. The team received silver medals in Chemistry Lab and Protein Modeling and bronze medals in ir Trajectory (pneumatic launcher), Game On (computer game design) and the Scrambler Carevent.

Ardsley’s B team earned bronze medals in Fossils and Protein Modeling.

The individual event medal winners were Andrew Rosenfeld (two gold, one silver), Kruti Sutaria (one gold, one silver), Jainil Sutaria (one gold, one bronze), Gaurav Uppal (one silver, one bronze), Andrew Ziemer (one gold), Alistair Gluck (one gold, one silver), YuHan Bae (one gold), Tara Venkatadri (one gold), Ben Sherman one gold), Ronin Sharma (one gold), Liana Patel (one silver), Shaan Dave (two bronze), Zachary Gold (one bronze), Robin Xiao (one bronze), Mriganka Nerkar (one bronze), Rebecca Chu-Carroll (one bronze), Maggie Zhong (one bronze) and Brian Evans (one bronze).
