ARDSLEY, N.Y. Voters approved the $57,995,761 budget for the Ardsley schools by a margin of 891-312 on Tuesday night, according to unofficial results. They also re-elected Patricia Bova as president of the Board of Education.
Theres still some goals you have to hope to accomplish and theres a learning curve too, so once you get through the first few years youre more confident in what youre doing and you get to know the right path to follow, said Bova, who will begin her fifth year on the board.
The budget is a $1,059,016 increase in spending over the previous year, or 1.86 percent. The tax levy increase is 2.13 percent, which is allowable under the state-mandated tax levy cap.
The increase is because of a reduction in state aid, rising energy and fuel costs and ongoing increases in health-insurance premiums, according to the school district. The district projects the tax-rate increase in the range of 1.9 percent. Included in the budget are additions to the Concord Road School staff: a physical education teacher and three classroom teachers.
Bova ran unopposed for the one open seat on the board and received 934 votes.
It gives you some confidence so hopefully going forward everyone will be supportive of what you do, she said. I was pleasantly surprised because people could just not bother to give their support because it was uncontested.
