ARDSLEY, N.Y. – Jon-Ellyn Cullen, of Ardsley, was one of 11 Canisius College students who spent nearly two weeks in June studying and observing local wildlife in Alaska.
Sponsored by the Canisius Zoological Society, the group visited the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and Kenai Fjords National Park.
Cullen, a member of the Class of 2018, is an animal behavior, ecology and conservation major.
The refuge, often called "Alaska in miniature," is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including Dall’s sheep, mountain goats, brown and black bears, moose and eagles. Wildlife known to thrive there include sea otters, sea lions and five different species of whales.
In all, the group was able to observe more than 100 animal species between the wildlife refuge and national park.
