Dobbs Ferry, Ardsley Score High On Statewide Test

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Students in Dobbs Ferry and Ardsley averaged higher scores than the rest of Westchester County, according to statewide test score data released Tuesday by the state Education Department.

Students in Ardsley scored slightly higher than students in Dobbs Ferry in both math and English. Ardsley students also scored higher than neighboring Hastings.

"We’re building a ladder, grade by grade, to college and career readiness," Education Commissioner John B. King Jr. said in a press release. "These results are a small, positive sign of growth, but not enough of our students are climbing as steadily as they should be. Next school year, we start to implement reforms to make that ladder strong enough to support all our students as they climb toward college and career readiness."

Students in grades three through eight were tested across the state in April and were ranked into the following categories according to the state: level one means the student is below standards; level two indicates students meet basic standards; level three means students meet proficiency standards; and level four mean students exceed proficiency standards.

In the Ardsley Union Free School District, 90 percent of students met or exceeded the proficiency standards in math, except for the third grade, which had 86 percent meeting or exceeding the proficiency standards. Comparatively, only 64.8 percent of students statewide and 73 percent of students countywide met or exceeded the proficiency standards.
