Dobbs Ferry Board of Ed, Ptsa Seeks Candidates

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – There are several volunteer positions opening up in the Dobbs Ferry School District, including seats on the Dobbs Ferry Board of Education and Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA).  The school board will have two open spots as the terms for President Lynne Black and Board member Anna Sterne end in June.

“Petitions to run as a candidate for the school board next year must be submitted by the close of business on Monday, April 16, 2012,” the board said on its agenda.  “Twenty-five signatures of registered voters in the district are required.”

Elections will be held on May 15 and any residents not registered to vote with the Westchester County Board of Elections can sign up on May 7 from 5-9 p.m. in the high school gym.  All voters must be a citizen of the United States, 18 years or older and must have lived in the school district for 30 days or more before May 15.

The PTSA also has several positions open on the executive committee that the organization is looking to fill.

“It’s that time of year again when we look to fill executive positions for the PTSA for next year,” the PTSA said in a statement.  “Our nominating committee is hard at work finding the best people to fill these open positions.”

The PTSA said positions are “ideally a two-year commitment,” but one year terms can be arranged if necessary.  All executive committee members are required to attend monthly meetings.  The nominating committee will review candidates and recommend a list of people to the PTSA to vote at the May 7 meeting.  Nominations should be in by April 15, according to the statement.

Open positions include recording secretary, corresponding secretary, general vice-president, high-school vice-president and treasurer.
