DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. The Dobbs Ferry Schools Foundation hosts several fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for the district, but the annual Gala sets the bar each year.
This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, said Louise Pegg, one of the co-chairs of the foundation. Its kind of our showpiece fundraiser and it provides the funding for a huge chunk of the programs we actually fund.
The majority of the money raised at the annual Gala comes from auctions, both silent and live, comprised of items and services donated from local residents.
Anything from sports tickets to massages to tutoring, all kinds of different things that we think will appeal to everyone, Pegg said. Even our school principals are throwing in the chance for students to become principal for a day and kind of shadow the principal around.
There are a few big ticket items as well that Pegg said will be available to bid on at the Galas live auction.
Somebody donated a week of their Ritz Carlton condo in Florida, she said. Its a little bit of kind of unique things you wouldnt really get your hands on otherwise.
With planning for the party going all the way back to last fall, Pegg said the event has truly blossomed from its humble fundraiser beginnings.
It started out as a dinner party where somebody invited their friends to the house and charged for food and whatever and it kind of mushroomed over the years to be this kind of big, annual shindig, she said.
Although recent years and a down economy have hampered fundraising efforts a bit, Pegg said the foundation still has high expectations for this years event.
Weve had a much quieter time of it in the last few years, but its significant for us, she said. I would like to hope for something to the tune of $40,000 or $50,000.
The party will be held Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Ardsley Country Club, but Pegg said this years event has a Footloose theme and is more of a hair down kind of a party. Tickets can be purchased online at the DFSF website.
