Clarick, a senior, focused on the muscular regeneration of the body and the connection between cells and how they begin to regenerate.

Her project paid attention to the signals sent out to start the regeneration process, specifically what's known as the transforming growth factor beta signaling pathway. It's the signal sent out throughout the body to start metabolic processes.

She was able to harvest muscle cells and map the ability of certain receptors' ability to receive signals by completing a detailed analysis.

The Acorda Scientific Excellence Award is given to high school students to encourage interest in careers in the field of STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) research.
