DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Fundraising is one of the most fiercely debated issues in school districts across the country, which is why the Dobbs Ferry PTSA makes a point of generating as much of it as possible.
We financially support programs within the school and we also provide a lot of manpower in the schools, said Dobbs Ferry PTSA president Lisa Ferrara.
Money raised from various programs around town helps the PTSA contribute more revenue to the school district. One of the most popular, and simplest, fundraising programs in town is the one in conjunction with local grocery store DeCiccos.
We have a program with DeCiccos which is ongoing throughout the year, Ferrara said. They do it with a lot of the local PTAs. You just put your sales receipt in the box and they give a percentage of your purchase back to the school.
The money raised from various programs go to all different areas of the schools whether it is student programs or even transportation.
We also do things like pay for the transportation for the kids to get to the prom so that nobody is driving and the kids are safe, Ferrara said.
In another local fundraiser, the PTSA will be hosting its annual pumpkin fair at Springhurst Elementary School on Saturday.
