DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. People use Facebook to share vacation photos, chat with old friends and find out what their ex-spouses are up to but now Dobbs Ferry parents will also be able to use the social media site to communicate with their childrens school.
The Dobbs Ferry School District launched its first official Facebook page just in time for the start of the school year in an effort to enhance two-way communication between schools and parents, said Elizabeth Hauseman, public information officer. The page offers quick school news, photos, videos, articles and calendar updates, said officials in a press release.
The Facebook page is there to supplement what is already on the website, which is the official source of information and news for the Dobbs Ferry School District http://www.dfsd.org/ , said Superintendent Dr. Lisa Brady in the press release. We ask that you please read the rules-of-engagement and be a positive role model when posting a comment on the Facebook page. It is there for students, staff, parents and community members to enjoy, and we hope that it gets people excited about our schools and whats happening in 21st century education.
The page was first suggested after the ad-hoc communications committee did a communications audit to measure the effectiveness of school district communication with parents and residents. After analyzing the result, the superintendent formed subcommittees for issues concerning website, TV/video programming, email/print communications and social media, officials said in the press release.
The district plans to utilize this new form of communication to connect with parents more effectively and in different ways, especially as the district develops an educational plan for the next five years. In the press release, officials said they hope to reach 500 likes by the first week of school.
