DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Parents will automatically be notified by phone when a child is not in school or has missed a class under a new system Dobbs Ferry Schools will put in place Thursday.
The automated calls are an add-on to the district's K12 Alerts System.
“This service is intended to save a significant amount of time and keep parents and guardians informed of their child’s attendance,” said Sylvia Fassler-Wallach, assistant superintendent of finances, facilities and operations. "The implementation of this new system will enable us to reduce the manpower hours that it takes to follow up on unexcused absences.”
The system is meant to be more efficient than the “old-school” method of multiple people making dozens of telephone calls each day. Starting Thursday, the attendance files from each school will be automatically uploaded to the .
Parents of elementary and middle school students will receive calls between 10 and 11 a.m. Parents of high school students will be notified later in the day, between 5:30 and 7:30 pm., to allow time to account for all periods.
Parents must still call the attendance office to report a child’s absence or tardiness. The school will notify a parent by phone only for unexcused absences. Parents are required to keep their child’s school fully informed and up-to-date regarding absences and lateness.
