The school district elementary school will dismiss kindergarten through second graders at 1:40 p.m. and grades three through five at 2 p.m. Students in grades 6-12 will be dismissed at 2:05 p.m.

Schools Superintendent Lisa Brady explained the Wednesday dismissal in a letter posted on the district website. Brady said meetings with parents over the last two years about the “vision for teaching and learning” and the need to work toward changes to the  “status quo” and the daunting challenges that are being faced by teachers, students, and parents as we work to untangle the complexities of our children’s futures."

"One reflection of the District’s dedication to this goal was the inclusion in the recently negotiated teachers’ contract of a one-hour early dismissal for students starting in September," Brady's letter said. "Both the teachers and the District recognized that the work we are asking teachers to do simply could not fit within the current schedule."

Brady said the Wednesday development time will lead to a better education for the district students.

"I know that this change on Wednesdays may not be easy for many families," Brady said. "I truly believe, however, that it is the right thing to do at this point in time to ensure better outcomes for our children. I hope that you will trust that we will use this time wisely and that our children will be the ones to reap the many benefits."
