These Hastings High School seniors scored in the top, less than 1 percent, of students taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in 2012.

About 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the competition for the 2014 honors.

“We are extremely proud of these students’ performance and efforts and wish them well on their quest to become Finalists,” Hastings High School Principal Louis Adipietro said in a statement.

The four seniors will now go on to be considered for the Finalist level in February. To become a finalist, the semifinalists and their high school must submit a detailed scholarship application providing information about the semifinalists’ academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment and honors and awards received.
