HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- The artwork of five Hastings High School students is on exhibit at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Conn., through July 6 as part of the "iCreate: Teen Art" exhibit.
Organized by the Bruce Museum’s Youth Committee, 40 winning works of art, five of which were from China, were selected for the fifth annual show.
According to Hastings High School art teacher Naomi Gilbert, the museum received about 460 submissions. Out of these, 126 were selected for a second round of judging, and then 35 U.S. entries were selected to be part of the show.
“I’m really excited for the art students being recognized at this wonderful show. It puts Hastings students on the art world map,” Gilbert said. “We have many talented art students here, and now other people get to know.”
Fine art entries were limited to two-dimensional original works in oil, watercolor, acrylic, tempera, gouache, pastel and any type of drawing medium, traditional printmaking forms (such as relief, etching, stone lithograph and serigraph), mixed media and art generated digitally by computer. Entries could be no larger than 40 inches on any one side.
Hastings students’ works were well-received. Twenty-two students submitted works, eight made it to the second round of judging and then the final five. All of the pieces will be part of a video slide show at the Bruce.
Maddie Osborn's piece was selected to be the cover of the invitation to the opening reception on June 6. Her piece also received an honorable mention.
“I never thought it would be picked," Osborn said. "I originally was making it as a birthday present for a friend and then decided to put more work into it. So cool.”
The participating Hastings students are Maya Adair, Andriana Cunningham, Julia Dailey, Gen David, Julia Kunze, Gina Lindner, Emily Linn, Maya Lopez, Theresa Maddalena, Andrew Madigan, Sofia May, Wing O’Casey, Maddie Osborn, Nikko Padilla, Maia Rubin, Lena Rubin, Tessa Schneider, Katya Rudnik, Lucy Sedky, Bridgette Stanton, Lia Stephens, Ben Torda, Sofia Zordan, and Lauren Weiner.
Those that made it to the second round but not final were Julia Dailey, Katya Rudnik, and Ben Torda.
In the final show are: Andriana Cunningham, Gina Linder, Andrew Madigan, Maddie Osborn and Nikko Padilla.
