The event was held in Washington at the Hylton Performing Arts Center on the campus of George Washington University. Nine schools traveled from Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, New York and North Carolina to compete.
Hastings was one of the smallest schools in attendance but was asked to compete against larger schools because of its talent level. Student Isaiah Riesman-Tremonte, who received a Maestro Award said, “This is an incredible opportunity. It gives us a chance to validate the hard work we have been doing at Hastings.”
Choral adjudicators were Gary Packwood, Mississippi State University, Karen Parthun, retired, Arizona State University, and professor Lynne Rothrock, St. Ambrose University; and instrumental adjudicators were John Casagrande, retired, George Mason University, M. Scott McBride, Morehead State University, and Alexander R. Trevino, Old Dominion University.
Each group received a rating from the adjudicators and received rankings when other schools performed in the same category. Gold was the highest rating needed to earn a score of 90 or higher out of 100 points, followed by silver. All Hastings High School groups earned ratings of Gold or Silver and were presented with commemorative plaques.
The Hastings High School Madrigals and String Sinfonia both won gold ratings and first place in their divisions. The HHS Chorus was awarded a gold rating and second place in their division. The orchestra and jazz ensemble received gold ratings, and the band received a rating of silver and first place in their division.
Flutist Justine Sedky and violinist Isaiah Riesman-Tremonte were recognized by the adjudicators with the Maestro Award, noting their individual performances in their groups.
