The semifinalists are Emily Broude, Julia Morriss, Anna Karmel and Gabriella Wan.

These Hastings High School seniors scored in the top less than 1 percent of students taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in 2013. About 1.4 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the competition for the 2015 honors. “We are extremely proud of these students’ performance and efforts and wish them well on their quest to become Finalists,” said Louis Adipietro, principal of Hastings High School. The four seniors now will be considered for National Merit finalists in February.

To become a finalist, the semifinalists and their high school must submit a detailed scholarship application providing information about the semifinalists’ academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment and honors and awards received.
