Hastings High School Students Recognized In National Arts Competition

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- The students of Hastings High School cleaned up at the 2015 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, including two students who earned National Silver Medal honors.

Lyra Fuchs and Hannah Stein were among 11 Hastings High School students who won 25 awards at the nation’s longest-running recognition program for creative teenagers in grades 7 through 12.

Fuchs and Stein each won National Silver Medal honors, after earning Gold Key recognition at the state level. Gold Key recipients advanced to the national level of the competition.

Gold Key winners were Gina Linder, Printmaking; Stein, Mixed Media; Lyra Fuchs, Printmaking; and Lauren Weiner, Drawing and Illustration.

Works were judged on originality, technical skill and emergence of personal vision or voice.

Hastings High School winners include Julia Kunze, Silver Key Drawing and Illustration; Gina Linder, Gold Key Printmaking, Silver Key Painting, Silver Key Painting; Andrew Madigan, Silver Key Painting, Honorable Mention Drawing and Illustration; Sophia May, Silver Key Painting, Silver Key Painting, Honorable Mention Mixed Media, Honorable Mention Mixed Media, Honorable Mention Mixed Media; Maddie Osborne, Silver Key Drawing and Illustration, Honorable Mention Drawing and Illustration, Honorable Mention Drawing and Illustration; Conor Pochna, Honorable Mention Drawing and Illustration; Hannah Stein, Gold Key Mixed Media; Lyra Fuchs, Gold Key Printmaking, Honorable Mention Painting; Lauren Weiner, Gold Key Drawing and Illustration, Silver Medal National Level Mixed Media, Silver Medal National Level Printmaking, Silver Key Drawing and Illustration, Silver Key Drawing and Illustration; Ciaran Burke, Honorable Mention Photography; and Lauren DeSouza, Honorable Mention Photography.

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards were created in 1923. Notable alumni range from Andy Warhol to Truman Capote and Sylvia Plath to Stephen King.
