HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Hastings High School announced Evie Brandford-Altsher and Jordon Alligood were recognized as semi-finalists in the 2015 National Achievement Scholarship Program.
The National Achievement Scholarship Program is an academic competition established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding Black American high school students.
Brandford-Altsher and Alligood are two of approximately 1,600 Black American high school seniors who received the honor for their scores on the 2013 PSAT/National Merit Qualifying Test. Nationally, more than 160,000 high school juniors requested consideration.
To be considered as a finalist, the semifinalists and their high schools must submit a detailed scholarship application in which the students’ academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment and honors and awards are documented.
In late January, approximately 1,300 semifinalists are notified by mail that they qualify as Finalists. High school principals are notified and provided with a certificate to present to each finalist.
