The new member will fill the seat until the next election in May 2017. Hicks' term expires in 2018.
"Joining the Board of Education provides an opportunity to deepen your involvement with the district and to help shape and improve the educational experience for our students," the school board said in a release.
To be eligible for the position, a candidate must be at least 18 years old; a current resident of the school district who's lived there for at least one year, and eligible to vote.
There are board meetings, scheduled every other Tuesday evening. Board of Education members also serve on committees and interact with various community groups, and committee meetings are generally during the day.
