HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The hotly-debated Hastings School District $8.1 million bond proposal that includes a controversial plan to rebuild the Reynolds Field athletic complex drew a high turnout to the polling place at Hastings High School Tuesday.

According to poll  workers, a dozen voters were waiting for the polls to open at 7 a.m. A steady flow of voters continued arriving to vote at the School Street entrance to the Cochrane Gymnasium through the afternoon. School staffers helped voters park on the narrow roadway to facilitate voting.

The most recent school board elections drew just over 800 voters.

"This is very busy day," poll worker Frank Broadhead said. "I'm sure we'll have a bigger turnout than usual. Most school votes don't get this kind of attention."

The referendum proposes that the Hastings School District issue an $8.1 million bond and use $500,000 from its capital reserves to make district-wide improvements, including the renovation or rebuilding of the Reynolds Field athletic complex, which is in need of major repairs.

The Facility Project Bond Referendum Vote polls are open until to 9 p.m.

Check back with The Daily Voice for the results of the vote after 9 p.m.
