HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- The student artists of the Hastings School District created their works and will kick off the 7th Annual District Wide Art Show Thursday, May 15 in the Hastings High School gymnasium.
According to high school art teacher and Art Show Chair Martin Merchant, the show, which runs through May 17, will feature the induction ceremony for the new National Art Honor Society inductees at 6 p.m. along with the present members and parents. The art show officially opens at 7 p.m.
"Our goal is to highlight the district-wide visual art program of the 2013-2014 school year, with the hope that its breadth and depth can introduce parents and the community with our program, along with allowing students to see the greater context of their artwork," Merchant said.
The show, which attracted more than 300 guests last spring, includes the work of students in grades K-12 and involves a tremendous amount of work.
"This is our fifth year in the Cochran Gym and this large space allows us to more fully represent our students," Merchant said. "The Physical Education Department has graciously allowed us once again to use their valuable space as our venue."
All students will have their work up in public spaces at some point during the school year.
"We strive to ensure that public displays are up all year long, while attempting to display work that illustrates particular concepts, units or themes," Merchant said. "There are also other occasions in some buildings when work is displayed for special purposes, such as critiques and showcases -- Advanced Placement Art Show, National Art Honor Society."
